Let’s just start by saying I’m one of those people who has to look up directions for how to hard boil an egg, bake a potato, and find the correct cooking temperature for poultry, pork and beef. So, it should not really come as a surprise that I had to look up how to make hot dogs in a crockpot.

So how did I get myself into this situation where I’m cooking up enough hot dogs that I have to find a way to make them in bulk? One word – Halloween! My husband insisted that we invite my son’s entire soccer team to our house for a Halloween diner before trick or treating. In the past it was always our daughter’s friends and their parents and sibling. Now that she’s 12, the kids tend to go out sans an adult. So, we decided to skew a little younger this year. My kiddo did not want pizza.

So here ya go. The quick and ridiculously lazy way to make hot dogs in a crockpot.

Just a side note, I used a 6 quart crock pot, but I’m sure smaller ones would work just as well. I would probably only use this method of cooking hot dogs in a crockpot if I have a large crowd. To be honest, hot dogs take much better on the grill. Sometimes, time is of the essence, especially when you have a group of hungry kids.

I’ve owned smaller crockpots before, but I prefer the 6 quart for our family of 4. I’ve also recently discovered liners. How did I not know about these before? They save a ton of time with clean up. I definitely recommend them. Here are a few of my other picks.
