Looking for a baby shower gift or a birthday present for a young child? These 8 must have books for kids ages 1-3 should be in every child’s library. Both of my children had them, some were gifts, others I bought. My daughter passed them down to my son. And when he was done, if they weren’t destroyed by sticky fingers and ripped out pages, I passed them on to another child. But here’s the thing, I didn’t realize the full impact these books can have on young children until recently.
I am a volunteer in my my son’s Kindergarten class. We live in a nice neighborhood and my kids attend a Blue Ribbon school. Yet, there are children in my son’s class who can’t identify colors, can’t count past 10 – let alone identify the numbers up to 10, and don’t know the basic sounds of the letters of the alphabet. Yes, this is Kindergarten. However, most kindergarten classrooms today look like what first grade classrooms looked like ten years ago.
